New Colby Stories

Dear Colby,

So on Saturday morning (August 27), I went to get you out of bed.  While changing your diaper, I let out a "manly sound" and you said "uh-oh!  Poo-poo!"  I giggled the rest of the day about it.

On Sunday (August 28), we went with your cousins to "A Day out with Thomas" at the Union, IL train museum.  I loved sitting on the train with you while you said "Thomas" and "Choo Choo".  It was worth the 90 minute drive and the price of admission (barely). :)  My favorite part was when you got fake tattoos on your legs.  You kept bending over and staring at them until the blood rush to your head was too much to handle. Here is a picture from the day:

Love you,
Dad

Better late than never...

Dear Colby:

So I have been meaning to do this for about a year now but I thought better late than never.  I hope I keep updating this every time you does something I want to remember but I know that isn't practical.  I promise to do my best and hope you will get a kick out of this someday.

Scratching my head for my earliest memories of you, I can think of a couple of good stories when you were less than one month old:
  • The first time I got to feed you.  If you can read between the lines, my role in feeding you was limited until you went to solid foods.  However, when you were about a week or two old, I got to feed you a five oz bottle.  I was very proud of myself for getting you to drink the whole thing.  That lasted for about ten seconds when someone said that I should take a break every couple of ounces. Immediately after they said it, you regurgitated all five ounces on me.  Live and learn.
  • Another favorite story is the very first time I got to see you.  Your mother had to have an emergency c-section but fortunately I was able to be in the operating room.  The doctors told me to stand up to see you but I tried deferring so your mother and I could see you together for the first time.  After getting berated for 30 seconds to stand up, I agreed and got my first look at you.  You were blue and not breathing.  Your mommy asked me how he looked, I told her "great!"...fortunately I was wearing a mask and she was heavily sedated and exhausted so my fear was hidden.
I will try to add to this list as well as add other time periods in the future.  Enjoy a picture of you in his first Husker outfit:

Love you Colby,
-Dad
