Great way to end my coaching career...I hope!

 Colby:

You are growing up too fast (happy birthday by the way).  I wasn't planning on being an assistant to the assistant coach this past season, but I am glad I got one last chance to be in the dugout to watch you play up close.  It was a great season and you really hit well all year and played solid defense in right field.  Play of the year came at a great tourney in Sandusky, OH (Cedar Point, Caddyshack style pool party, etc.):

Sorry I yelled so much...I was a little excited (we were down by 2 with 2 outs so the homer was big and you're my son!).  But no regrets, ;).

Love you,

Dad

Fun at Home...Plate

 Colby,

Lucky enough for me I have been able to coach you (to some extent) this year again.  I really like your team and sadly wasn't there for the highlight of the season so far for you...a three run dinger!  (Not my fault I missed for the record, blame COVID).  Here is the video of your hit:

I have probably watched it at least 10 times.  (Maybe more)  It made me wish I was a kid again.

Love you,

Dad

Cribbage and a Machine that Doesn't Lie

 Colby,

I can't believe it has been a year since my last post.  Though in my defense COVID really killed the travel experiences that we usually post about.

We have been playing a lot of cribbage lately and you are getting really good at it.  I think Uncle Matt would call you as lucky as I used to be!

We were playing the other night and I may have let out a "manly sound".  The funny part was when the air purifier turned from "Blue" or good air to "RED" or bad air.  We laughed quite hard at that.

Well bud...I am looking forward to a year with many more posts.

Love you,

Dad

Cruising

Colby,

About a month ago we want on a Caribbean cruise.   We were having breakfast with Mr. Greg and you noticed his cruise card was gold but ours were red.   You asked him why, and he said it was because he had status from travelling on multiple cruises.  You responded, "Oh, I thought it was because you are old."  Cracked me up.

Also on the trip, you were hilarious when we went to a comedy show one night.  You made it seem like we were in a VIP cabin and the comedian called us rich....four people in a studio cabin...not sure I would call us rich.

Anyways, you had a great time on the cruise.

Love,
Dad

One pic from the cruise and one from getting to go on the United Center court to meet the Globetrotters.

Ball Hog?

Colby,

This story is from your basketball season.  I was your coach and teams were assigned to be "fair" (no draft).  We had to sit on bye the first two weeks and then play the "Dream Team" who was playing their third game.  We lost 46 to 5.

After the game you said "Dad, I scored all our baskets!"  I responded, "Ball Hog!"  I was just teasing.  Very proud of you.

Love,
Dad

Pick 6!

Hi Colby:

A few weeks ago you had a "Pick 6" in your flag football game.  Since I was your coach, I had a great view of it (but unfortunately no video).  I was very proud of both the fact you intercepted the ball and ran it for a touchdown and that you knew what a "Pick 6" is!  You did a great job of educating your teammates.  :)

Below are a couple pictures from attending your first Husker game...the Huskers lost but at least you got to enjoy great seats thanks to Uncle Kevin and a bright red hot dog!

Love you and am very proud of you,
Dad

Good Advice, Again

Colby,

Admittedly, I was not there for this one but I am the cause of it.  Back in June, you were  spending a few extra days with Grandma and Grandpa in Omaha.  While playing Putt-Putt with Mason Tresemer, you found out he was going to St. Louis later in the summer.  You excitedly told him about our trip there two years ago.  When you got to the St. Louis Arch, you talked about going up to the top.  But warned him not to fart because it is a $500 fine...you said "my dad read it on a sign!"  That is some good advice...but I must admit I made that part up.  :)

On that same trip, you and I had a great time at the College World Series.  You became a Beavers fan when you drew them in the family pool.  Then ended up winning of course.  Here is a pic of us at the fan fest:

(in the third pose, you are doing the "floss dance")

This pic is from Father's Day, you and Harlan matched!

Love you,
Dad
